Ready to brew for you at King Harbor Brewing Company

The February 13 gathering of the Business & Beer networking group was held at the first production brewery in Redondo Beach history, King Harbor Brewing Company (KHBC). We have been closely monitoring the growth of King Harbor Brewing since the day their notice of intent to sell alcohol sign was posted on the door and have become friends with the three principles, co-owners Tom Dunbabin and Will Daines, and brewer Philip McDaniel. As they prepared for their grand opening we were honored to hold our February meeting there and act as a soft open for them.

King Harbor provided two versions of each of their two flagship beers, The Quest Pale Ale with their Pineapple Quest Pale Ale; and Abel Brown Brown Ale with Vanilla Abel Brown Ale. As a special treat, Tanya prepared a wide variety of baked goods and mustards all of which were prepared using spent grains provided by King Harbor. We had a pretty large group of people show up but because of the setup people seemed to come and go for a few hours. The gathering was probably more informal than usual but everyone I spoke to had a good time and enjoyed being among the first to try King Harbor’s fine brews. I know King Harbor was quite happy with the turnout. The Quest

The March gathering of Business & Beer will be held at the newest production brewery in Torrance, Absolution Brewing Company on March 13 at 6:00 PM. Absolution is another brewery that we have been watching grow for the last several months. For a brand new production brewery, they have a very wide variety of beers available; from pale ales to stouts with a couple sodas for good measure. Absolution Brewing Company is located at 2878 Columbia Street in Torrance off Maple Avenue between Torrance Boulevard and Del Amo. You can get all the details on our front page or on our Facebook page. We hope you can make it. Our fourth Business N Beer gathering was held August 2 at Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. Coincidentally, it was also International IPA Day, so it was pretty appropriate that we met at Strand Brewing as they have a couple really nice IPA’s in their Atticus and Black IPA. Our group may have had a few less people than last week, but again it consisted of people that had shown up for one of our previous events and several newcomers. In addition, we had a few people wander over from the main tasting room to ask what Business N Beer was all about. It seems most people really like the idea and it shows with all the new faces we are seeing.

We would like to thank our host, Rich Marcello and Strand Brewing Company for having us, and special thanks to Phil and Debbie Walls for the pizza. Congratulations to Tim Thompson for winning the door prize this week, a free craft beer at one of our future events. Speaking of future events, our next event will be held at The Rockefeller in Hermosa Beach. The Rockefeller is a gastropub with 24 craft beers on tap. They also have some specials that will coincide with our event so I can assure you this will be a fun night. Bring a date and stay a while.

Week three of Business N Beer found us at our first micro brewery, Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance. Monkish Brewing specializes in Belgian style ales and beers, and the owner and brewer, Henry Nguyen does a great job of it. They have only been open for a few months but I can see that they are becoming quite popular as I see more and more people in their tasting room and I see several gastropubs carrying their products. It is nice to see good things happen to good people.

This was our largest gathering yet, with 17 or 18 people showing up. Unlike the second gathering at Abigaile which had no returnees from our first gathering, Thursday’s meet-up included several people that had come to the Select Beer gathering, several more that had come to our meeting at The Brewery at Abigaile with close to half of the attendees being first timers. It seems to me that Business N Beer is doing exactly as we hoped; bringing people together to do business while enjoying an American craft beer. And it is growing weekly.

Business N Beer is Growing

Our next Business N Beer meet-up will be Thursday, August 2 at 6:00 PM; and will be held at Strand Brewing Company, also in Torrance. This is another micro brewery, which means they do not serve food. We will likely bring in some snacks, but you can bring food or have it delivered. There is plenty of street parking and there are no meters! We hope to see you there. You can see all the photos from our night at Monkish Brewing on GotBaddog.com
