Strand Brewing Company

For the second month in a row, the Business & Beer networking group has met at a new tasting room; in October we visited El Segundo Brewing Company’s (ESBC) new tasting room, which was just moved to the other side of ESBC’s prior tasting room which increased their space by 200% or something. In December we visited Strand Brewing Company, who had no room to expand; so they moved. The new location is almost cavernous with their new 36,000 square-foot facility. We had a pretty nice turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy the new surroundings; you will want to visit Strand now that they are getting settled in.

Our December gathering of Business & Beer will be held at The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. The last couple of times we have met there we have had some fun groups, Abigaile is quickly turning into a crowd favorite. They have a new brewer now and what I have tried has been great; you know their food is fantastic. We will meet Thursday, December 10 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Just so you are aware, they do have underground parking. The Brewery at Abigaile is located at 1301 Manhattan Avenue in Hermosa Beach.

Business & Beer at ESBC

Fun people

The October 2015 gathering of Business & Beer was held at El Segundo Brewing Company, marking the first time that our group has visited El Segundo since they opened their new tasting room. While we did not have a large group, those that joined us were able to enjoy the spacious new surroundings while enjoying their favorite El Segundo brew or two. Phil and Debbie brought pizza and Denise brought some Mystic Mints to raffle off. Our group may have been intimate but everyone had a good time.

The November gathering of Business & Beer will be held Thursday November 12 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Strand Brewing Company’s new location, 2201 Dominguez Street in Torrance. If you have not yet visited this new location, prepare to be amazed; it is huge in comparison to just about any other tasting room in the South Bay. You will be impressed. For those interested in food, the Barley Hops Grill food truck will be there. They have some pretty good food, you might want to give them a try. Continue reading

Set up Business & Beer at Strand Brewing

Business & Beer at Strand Brewing Company

The March 2015 gathering of Business & Beer was held at the Strand Brewing Company tasting room in what was likely the last time we will meet at that location as Strand Brewing’s Conditional Use Permit to move to a much larger location was approved. We had a small group of regular attendees as well as a new visitor and we had a couple people come by to see what Business & Beer was all about. One of those people was Nikki of Nikki’s Atomic Oven, who came bearing gifts in the form of some tasty cookies. We hope Nikki becomes a regular attendee; if she brings cookies that is just icing on the cake.

The April 9 gathering of Business & Beer will be held at The Dudes’ Brewing Company in Torrance. This will be the second time we have visited The Dudes’, the first time being back in August when they used Business & Beer as a soft open for their new tasting room. Things have changed a bit at The Dudes’ in the past eight months, including bringing in a new brewer so it should be interesting to see what is happening there. We start at 6:00 PM and stick around until at least 8:00 PM; if the group is large enough we have been known to stay later. As it is a microbrewery they do not serve food but you are welcome to bring food with you. We sometimes have pizza available but it is not guaranteed, so if you are really hungry you might want to stop and grab a bite before coming. Be sure to bring business cards for our drawing and for handing out. Continue reading

Ready for Business & Beer

Business & Beer is ready for you

I guess it had to happen eventually; after all, Business & Beer has been going on for almost three years. When Business & Beer first launched we met on a weekly basis; after a year we decided to make it a monthly gathering as we found it was difficult for people to dedicate one day a week to this business networking event. Now, after another year and a half we have had our first gathering that no one showed up for. Well, no one besides Tanya and me.

When we came up with the concept of Business & Beer it was decided that we would limit the geographic range to the South Bay so traffic would not be a major concern. It was decided that the furthest north we would go is El Segundo and even though it is not really that far away, our El Segundo gatherings were typically smaller than those we have in a city like Torrance. The thing is El Segundo Brewing Company is one of my personal favorites, so I was willing to have smaller turnouts as long as we could continue to introduce people to new local breweries. The thing that bothered me the most was that El Segundo brewing was prepared to give us a tour of the brewhouse and had someone come in to give us the tour and we had no one to give it to. After this last non-gathering there is no question that we will not be able to expand our reach to include new breweries like Three Weavers or even Phantom Carriage because both locations are too far away from Torrance for us to expect anyone to show up.
