Last Thursday, November 1, Business & Beer made our third visit to Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. Sometimes I wonder if I am just repeating the same thing every week when I review our last get together; it is always new people, return visitors, we are growing, yada yada. Well, this week I am going to say that last week we had a fantastic gathering. Not only did we have a couple of new people and several returnees that had not been able to attend recently, but we had one of our largest groups ever. We had about 20 people show up, and considering that Strand Brewing Co does not serve food, that is really saying something. In fact, our group was so large that owners of other locations have commented to me that they heard about how much Business & Beer is growing. It is really good to see and I thank everyone that has come out and made Business & Beer the success it is becoming; we do appreciate it.
Next Thursday, November 8 we will be returning to Monkish Brewing, also in Torrance. Monkish Brewing is a microbrewery that specializes in Belgian style ales. I have had several people tell me that they have not tried Monkish yet, but have always wanted to, so I am expecting a pretty good group. I know we have some hop heads in the group that are not real fans of Belgian style ales, but I am here to tell you that brewmaster Henry has come up with a new dry-hopped Belgian amber, made with Sterling hops called False Prophet. Regular attendees know I am a major hop head and when I first raised my glass of False Prophet to my lips the aroma immediately put a smile to my face. I know I will never find an IPA at Monkish Brewing, but the False Prophet is right up there. Come on down Thursday and try it for yourself, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Last Thursday Business & Beer had our tenth get-together, this time with a return visit to Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. Strand Brewing is a local brewer in Torrance and specializes in ales, with their Atticus and Black IPA being two of my favorite locally brewed IPA’s. We had a fair turnout of eight, but as several of our regular attendees were out of the state, I can not complain. We had a couple second timers and one new attendee so it looks like we are going to continue to grow.
Tomorrow night, September 20, we will return to The Brewery at Abigaile in Hermosa Beach. If you did not join us here in July, you do not want to miss it tomorrow. The Brewery at Abigaile is a brewpub apart from most brewpubs in that not only do they offer some truly amazing beers, but their food is second to none. All brewpubs should be so good. Since they do serve food, this is a great event to bring your significant other. Between the food, beer and wine selections, you can be sure there will be something there for you. As an extra added bonus, since tomorrow is Day One of LA Beer Week, there will be specials offered with discounts on pints and growler fills. I do not think we could have planned a better way to start off LA Beer Week.
Since this is the beginning of LA Beer Week, we will be having an additional get-together on Friday, September 21 at Alpine Village in Torrance for their 45th Annual Oktoberfest. Members of Business & Beer, their family and friends will get free admission to Oktoberfest. You must be on the guest list and be over 21 to attend. We will meet at 7:00 PM at the patio area in front of the Alpine Market; please visit our Facebook page for more details and to get your name on the guest list.

Our fourth Business N Beer gathering was held August 2 at Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. Coincidentally, it was also International IPA Day, so it was pretty appropriate that we met at Strand Brewing as they have a couple really nice IPA’s in their Atticus and Black IPA. Our group may have had a few less people than last week, but again it consisted of people that had shown up for one of our previous events and several newcomers. In addition, we had a few people wander over from the main tasting room to ask what Business N Beer was all about. It seems most people really like the idea and it shows with all the new faces we are seeing.
We would like to thank our host, Rich Marcello and Strand Brewing Company for having us, and special thanks to Phil and Debbie Walls for the pizza. Congratulations to Tim Thompson for winning the door prize this week, a free craft beer at one of our future events. Speaking of future events, our next event will be held at The Rockefeller in Hermosa Beach. The Rockefeller is a gastropub with 24 craft beers on tap. They also have some specials that will coincide with our event so I can assure you this will be a fun night. Bring a date and stay a while.
