Sophie’s Place

Last Thursday we brought Business N Beer back to Sophie’s Place in Redondo Beach for another successful meetup. Sophie’s Place is a gastropub in the Riviera Village section of Redondo Beach, CA. The people at Sophie’s always make us feel welcomed and Thursday was no exception. In fact, Bobby (one of the co-owners) even invited a couple people to join our group. There were a couple other first time attendees so there was plenty of networking opportunities for those that wanted to network.

Cheers for Sophie's Place

A toast to our hosts

This Thursday, February 7, we will be returning to Tortilla Cantina in downtown Torrance. Tortilla Cantina is a gastropub with a south of the border flair; they serve Mexican food and offer 18 different kinds of tacos. In addition to good food they have a wide selection of craft beers on tap. There is always plenty of free parking and the portion of the restaurant we take over makes it conducive to networking. This will be our third visit there and everyone seems to enjoy themselves, so come on down and check them out.

We are considering opening chapters of Business & Beer in different cities, so if this is something that is of interest to you, please comment below and we will help you get started. There is no reason why this networking group needs to be confined to the South Bay. Please feel free to recommend us to your friends that include networking as a part of their marketing plan and Like Us on Facebook. You can sign up to get on our mailing list so you will always know where we are meeting next. All the photos from our visit to Sophie’s Place can be found on GotBaddog.com.

Last Thursday, Business & Beer returned to Sophie’s Place, a gastropub in Redondo Beach, CA. Ever since the end of Daylight Savings Time, the attendance level at our gatherings had been less than stellar. There were times that Tanya and I would discuss whether or not we were being too ambitious in attempting to have weekly gatherings; after the nice turnout we had Thursday we decided that weekly meetups was a format we would continue with. We know that there are other events our members are involved with that occur on Thursdays, so some weeks are just naturally going to have better turnouts than others. We will just have to take into account things like weather, Christmas shopping and competing events. After all, if we decided to meet bi-weekly we would only risk picking the rotation that would always be a conflict with Business & Beer, so for the time being, we will continue to meet weekly.

Tomorrow night, Thursday December 20, we will be returning to Strand Brewing Company, one of our favorite microbreweries in Torrance. Strand Brewing specializes in creating various ales; including their popular 24th Street Pale Ale and Atticus IPA. If you have not visited Strand Brewing lately, they have two new releases; Bagheera-East India Pale Ale and Black Sand Double IPA. Bagheera-East is their 3rd Anniversary Ale, featuring an exotic spice blend of curry, cumin, cinnamon and cloves accented with toasted coconut and tamarind. I would venture to say that this is Tanya’s favorite from Strand because it is not as hoppy as their typical brews. The Black Sand Double IPA is hoppy but balanced by a malty backbone. It reminds me a little of a half and half using an Atticus and Batch 100. Suffice it to say, Strand Brewing Co will have something you like; especially if you are a hophead.

Another good group at Sophie’s Place, Redondo Beach

Naturally, this will be our last gathering before Christmas and I know there are some that will be unavailable, but we always seem to get nice groups when we come to Strand Brewing, so come on down and have a beer and maybe do some business. Remember to sign up for our mailing list and Like us on Facebook to make sure you stay in the loop. I expect 2013 to have several special events for Business & Beer attendees. Last Thursday, Business & Beer returned to our favorite Redondo Beach gastropub, Sophie’s Place in the Riviera Village. This was our 14th gathering and there are no signs of letting up as we had another nice mixture of veteran and new members show up. There were several other networking events going on at the same time, so it was not surprising that some of our regular attendees were not able to make it. As the debates between Biden and Ryan were going on at the same time and the weather had been a little damp earlier, I was not surprised that we did not set any record attendance numbers, but we had a nice group show up. We had a first time attendee or two and a couple of people that are turning into regulars, so I am pleased.

This Thursday, October 18, we will be returning to the Alpine Inn at Alpine Village in Torrance. This will be our second visit to Alpine, not counting our special event we had at Oktoberfest. While in the past Alpine Inn was known primarily for their selection of German beers on tap, their GM is a home brewer and has expanded their craft beer selection to include several local brews as well as some hard to find American craft beers. Bring your appetite, business cards and willingness to network and you will have a great time. You can get all the details on our front page.

As a reminder, this Saturday, October 20 will be the 1st Annual Hollywood On Tap which is a benefit for the Blank Theater Group. Those of you that have met Matt know that he is putting a lot of effort into making this a success and their list of participating breweries proves it. As an attendee of Business & Beer and reading our blog you are entitled to a special discount. You can get VIP admission for just $35; that is cheaper than a general admission ticket and you get in an hour early! There is a $4 service charge per order (not per ticket) and there will not be any tickets sold at the door, so take advantage of it while you can. This promises to be a fun event. Continue reading
