Business & Beer at ESBC

Fun people

The October 2015 gathering of Business & Beer was held at El Segundo Brewing Company, marking the first time that our group has visited El Segundo since they opened their new tasting room. While we did not have a large group, those that joined us were able to enjoy the spacious new surroundings while enjoying their favorite El Segundo brew or two. Phil and Debbie brought pizza and Denise brought some Mystic Mints to raffle off. Our group may have been intimate but everyone had a good time.

The November gathering of Business & Beer will be held Thursday November 12 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Strand Brewing Company’s new location, 2201 Dominguez Street in Torrance. If you have not yet visited this new location, prepare to be amazed; it is huge in comparison to just about any other tasting room in the South Bay. You will be impressed. For those interested in food, the Barley Hops Grill food truck will be there. They have some pretty good food, you might want to give them a try. Continue reading

Absolution welcomes Business & Beer

Absolution Brewing welcomes Business & Beer

The Business & Beer networking group returned to Absolution Brewing Company for their July 2015 gathering. Following two successive months of outstanding attendance, the attendance this time would be better described as intimate. Since it was held in mid-July one might presume that a certain number go off on vacation with their families, so we do not despair too much. While it is always nice when we have large turnouts, the smaller ones are nice also as it gives the attendees more opportunity to visit with each other. I believe Phil will agree that it definitely increases your odds of winning the drawing for a free beer.

Phil wins his first free beer in quite a while.

Our next Business & Beer will be held at Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance on August 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. For those interested in food, Vella Pizza will be there creating fresh brick-oven baked pizzas. If you grow vegetables and want to customize your pizza, bring some goodies along and they will use them on your pizza. There are some fun brews coming from Monkish lately, including their collaboration with El Segundo Brewing Company, Beer.HOPS.Love, a hoppy Belgian Tripel. Naturally, they have lots of their Belgian-ish brews which all seem to pair well with pizza. The hopheads among you will enjoy whichever “Saint” Belgian-style pale ale is available (guessing Saint Amarillo or Saint Citra) as well as the Beer.HOPS.Love. For sure you will have a good time networking with others that feel the same way about craft beer as you. Continue reading

Business & Beer & Pizza

Ready for Business, Beer, Pizza & networking at King Harbor Brewing

The June 2015 gathering of Business & Beer was held June 11 at the King Harbor Brewing Company tasting room and if the last the review of last month’s gathering sounded upbeat, this one should be equally so.

We had initially scheduled the networking event to be held at King Harbor’s new Waterfront Tasting Room but last minute delays with the California ABC put the opening date in question, so an executive decision was made to reschedule the gathering for the original tasting room. In retrospect, as much as it would have been pretty cool to introduce the Business & Beer group to the new location, I am not entirely sure we all would have fit if everyone that RSVP’d actually showed up. As it was, we had about 20 people show up which was our largest group in quite a while. It was a definite improvement over the showings earlier in the year when we might have three people join us. Nice group at May Business & Beer

Great turnout at The Brewery at Abigaile

If you have been following along the last few months, you may have noticed that the reviews of the most recent Business & Beer gatherings have had a tinge of discouragement in them. The reality is that we have been considering changing the format of Business & Beer from a monthly event to bi-monthly; we even considered disbanding. Our gathering last month at The Brewery at Abigaile changed all that as we had one of our largest gatherings in many months.

We had a nice mix of regulars, semi-regulars and first time attendees. Since it was also the anniversary of our sponsor Craft Beer Guy, we had a special raffle with the winner choosing between a couple bottles that were brought in. As we are now entering the summer season, it is expected that our gatherings should see an increase in attendance, at least until Daylight Standard Time returns.

Our next gathering of Business & Beer will be at King Harbor Brewing Company on June 11. King Harbor Brewing is located at 2907 182nd Street in Redondo Beach. Initially it was planned that we would meet at the King Harbor Brewing Company’s waterfront tasting room, but due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to change to the brewery itself as the satellite tasting room may not be ready in time and we would not know until the last minute. We will definitely include the new location sometime in the future. Business & Beer begins at 6:00 PM and runs until 8:00 PM. Continue reading

The Dude's production brewery

The Dudes’ Brewing Company

On April 9, the Business & Beer networking group returned to The Dudes’ Brewing Company’s tasting room in Torrance. This was our second visit to The Dudes’ since we went there for their soft open back in August. Unlike our first visit, when we pretty much filled the place, we had a pretty small turnout at our April gathering. In fact, the turnout was so poor that we considered changing the format of Business & Beer from a monthly event to a “once-in-a-while” event. Fortunately, the gathering ended up having a few more attendees as a few people joined us before we had packed up. Those that did attend were treated to free beer, courtesy of The Dudes’ Brewing Company. When the date was scheduled I was unaware that Thursday was trivia night at The Dudes’ so when it was announced Business & Beer formed an impromptu team to play. Our team did okay, but none of us were really into it for the long run. When we return there I will find out ahead of time so those of you that want to play will have enough notice.

After a little discussion, it has been decided to continue with the monthly format for Business & Beer and it appears that our next gathering, at The Brewery at Abigaile on May 14, will be very well attended. We have already been notified by several people that they will definitely be in attendance so if you have been waiting for the right time to attend, this just might be the networking event you were looking for. The Brewery at Abigaile is a brewpub so there will be plenty of food options to go along with their fine selection of brews. They have a special Research & Development Menu during Happy Hour, so come a little early if you want to take advantage of that. The Brewery at Abigaile is located at 1301 Manhattan Avenue in Hermosa Beach; that is on the northwest corner of Pier and Manhattan Avenues. Business & Beer officially runs from 6:00-8:00 PM but we should be there by 5:30. We will be seated at the community tables that are opposite the bar when you first come in. Continue reading
