Monkish Brewing Company

Last Thursday, November 1, Business & Beer made our third visit to Strand Brewing Company in Torrance. Sometimes I wonder if I am just repeating the same thing every week when I review our last get together; it is always new people, return visitors, we are growing, yada yada. Well, this week I am going to say that last week we had a fantastic gathering. Not only did we have a couple of new people and several returnees that had not been able to attend recently, but we had one of our largest groups ever. We had about 20 people show up, and considering that Strand Brewing Co does not serve food, that is really saying something. In fact, our group was so large that owners of other locations have commented to me that they heard about how much Business & Beer is growing. It is really good to see and I thank everyone that has come out and made Business & Beer the success it is becoming; we do appreciate it.

Business & Beer Week 17

Nice group for Business & Beer at Strand Brewing Co.

Next Thursday, November 8 we will be returning to Monkish Brewing, also in Torrance. Monkish Brewing is a microbrewery that specializes in Belgian style ales. I have had several people tell me that they have not tried Monkish yet, but have always wanted to, so I am expecting a pretty good group. I know we have some hop heads in the group that are not real fans of Belgian style ales, but I am here to tell you that brewmaster Henry has come up with a new dry-hopped Belgian amber, made with Sterling hops called False Prophet. Regular attendees know I am a major hop head and when I first raised my glass of False Prophet to my lips the aroma immediately put a smile to my face. I know I will never find an IPA at Monkish Brewing, but the False Prophet is right up there. Come on down Thursday and try it for yourself, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Monkish Flight

All the Monkish brews

Thursday, September 6 was our ninth meeting of Business & Beer and marked our second month of holding these events. This was also our first return visit to a brewery, brewpub or gastropub and it was Monkish Brewing in Torrance that received that honor. We had a medium sized group, but considering the DNC and a couple other events were going on at the same time, it was a nice turnout.

For those that did not make it, we have been invited by Alpine Village to attend their Oktoberfest as a group, for no charge. Your name will need to be on our list so if you are not following us on Facebook, this would be a good time to do it so you can sign up and learn more details. Currently we are deciding between September 21 or the 22nd. Go cast your vote.

Our next Business & Beer will be held this Thursday, September 13 at Strand Brewing Co in Torrance. This is a return visit to one of the fastest growing micro breweries in the South Bay. This is a brewery that has something for everyone, whether it be an amber or an IPA. As it is a micro brewery there is no food, so you are welcome to bring food if you wish. There is plenty of free street parking available and you are encouraged to use that. As usual, all the photos from our visit to Monkish Brewing can be found on GotBaddog.com.

Week three of Business N Beer found us at our first micro brewery, Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance. Monkish Brewing specializes in Belgian style ales and beers, and the owner and brewer, Henry Nguyen does a great job of it. They have only been open for a few months but I can see that they are becoming quite popular as I see more and more people in their tasting room and I see several gastropubs carrying their products. It is nice to see good things happen to good people.

This was our largest gathering yet, with 17 or 18 people showing up. Unlike the second gathering at Abigaile which had no returnees from our first gathering, Thursday’s meet-up included several people that had come to the Select Beer gathering, several more that had come to our meeting at The Brewery at Abigaile with close to half of the attendees being first timers. It seems to me that Business N Beer is doing exactly as we hoped; bringing people together to do business while enjoying an American craft beer. And it is growing weekly.

Business N Beer is Growing

Our next Business N Beer meet-up will be Thursday, August 2 at 6:00 PM; and will be held at Strand Brewing Company, also in Torrance. This is another micro brewery, which means they do not serve food. We will likely bring in some snacks, but you can bring food or have it delivered. There is plenty of street parking and there are no meters! We hope to see you there. You can see all the photos from our night at Monkish Brewing on GotBaddog.com
