Since I already reviewed last week’s non-gathering, I will just use this opportunity to remind you that this week we will be returning to El Segundo Brewing Company; located at 140 Main Street in El Segundo. If you have never been there, it is directly across the street from Rock & Brews. El Segundo Brewing has some of my favorite IPA’s and they make some great stouts as well; their Pale Ale is a pretty popular one as well. There is free parking kitty-corner to El Segundo Brewing and all street parking is free. Come on down, enjoy a fresh beer and network.

Speaking of networking, Business & Beer got a little free press in DaBelly.com; hopefully we will generate some additional interest. I hope with our planned change of going from weekly to once a month we will be able to bring back the larger groups we had in the past.

Last night Business & Beer was scheduled to meet at The Rockefeller, a gastropub in Hermosa Beach. This was our fifth time going there and the last time we had more than 10 attendees; last night is was just the two of us. We learned a couple of hours ahead of time that there was a good chance the attendance would be low due to things coming up; we just did not realize how low it would be. Anyway, this is the reason we are changing our format to once a month beginning in July. It is difficult to commit to something on a weekly basis; that is one reason I avoid certain networking groups.

We will not let last night stop us, we have locations scheduled through June and they are all quality businesses. Next week, June 6, we will return to El Segundo Brewing Company, a microbrewery that puts out some of the best ales in Southern California. If you enjoy hops, you are going to love El Segundo Brewing. Parking in El Segundo is free and there is a public parking lot on the northwest corner of Main & Franklin. As they are a microbrewery they do not serve food but you are welcome to bring some in. We hope to see you there.

If you know anyone that would benefit from networking with other business owners and enjoy craft beer, please feel free to tell them about us. If you have not signed up to our mailing list yet, be sure to do so and you will always know what is coming up. No worries, we will not spam you. If email is not your thing, you can always Like Us on Facebook to stay informed. Continue reading

Smog City Flight

Business & Beer at Smog City Brewing

Last week, Business & Beer welcomed Smog City Brewing Company to the rotation of South Bay brewpubs and microbreweries we visit. Smog City officially opened five days earlier, on May 18, so we felt honored to be able to bring our group there so soon after they opened. We had a pretty respectable turnout, with this being the first opportunity many had to experience. Located in Torrance, Smog City Brewing is the newest microbrewery to open a tasting room in Torrance, and as you can tell by the photo above, they brew a very wide variety of beers. They are a welcome addition to the South Bay and as a regular addition to the Business & Beer schedule.

Business & Beer with Smog City Brewing Co

This week, Business & Beer will return to The Rockefeller, a gastropub in Hermosa Beach. For those that have not come here yet, if you get there early, you might look to see if there is any free parking available in the back. They offer about 25 beers on tap, have really good food and have specials when we are there; combine that with the fun people that are eager to meet you and hear what you have to say, it is a great reason to come on down. We usually have a pretty good group when we meet there.

Beer selection at Alpine Inn at Alpine Village

Last Thursday we brought BusinessNBeer back to the Alpine Inn at Alpine Village; a German gastropub located in Torrance. It was day four of American Craft Beer Week and while Alpine Inn was having issues with several of their taps, they still had several award winning breweries represented on their tap list. We had a pretty small turnout, but we had three first timers in the group, so that was a plus. This will be our last association with Meetup as there was no value in continuing. The Meetup group has been officially deleted.

Good beer is always better when it is free

This week’s gathering is going to be very special as we will be coming to Smog City Brewing, a new microbrewery in Torrance. Smog City is an award winning brewery and just had their grand opening this past weekend. We feel very fortunate to have them open their doors to us on their first Thursday of being open. They will have a food truck there, so food is going to be available. If you have not had an opportunity to visit Smog City yet, you are in for a treat as they brew several different styles of beers including an IPA, a saison, sour, porter, stout, barrel aged and more. They are a great addition to the Business & Beer rotation of breweries we will visit. We hope to see you there.
