The August gathering of Business & Beer was held at El Segundo’s newest production brewery, and LA County’s first distillery and brewery, Rob Rubens Distilling & Brewing. While our turnouts in El Segundo are typically lower than those, in say Torrance, we had a very nice sized group with a nice mixture of old and new attendees.
Rob Rubens Distilling & Brewing founder Rob Rubens gave us a tour of the brewery with a lot of emphasis placed on the distillery portion since that is something not many have had an opportunity to learn about. They did not have spirits available at our gathering but they will have some by the day of their grand opening, on September 16.
After the tour everyone settled in for some networking and tastings of the Head Over Heels IPA, Valentine’s Massacre, Gunpowder Cream and anti-Villain Saison. Everyone seemed to enjoy the unique style brewed at Rob Rubens Distilling & Brewing. You can find all the photos from the event on CraftBeerGuy.com. Continue reading
We had a very nice turnout, with a total of seven of the attendees being present at the first event as well. To mark the occasion, co-founder Tanya prepared homemade calzones which went perfectly with Smog City’s beer; Phil and Debbie brought in a couple pizzas which ensured there was plenty to eat for everyone. All attendees won the free beer raffle, so everyone was a winner. Thank you to everyone that came out. Continue reading
The Business & Beer networking group held their June gathering at Monkish Brewing Company’s tasting room in Torrance. Graduations and out of town vacationing resulted in a lower than expected turnout; but on the plus side, most of the attendees were first time visitors to Monkish Brewing which fulfills one of the Business & Beer goals which is to introduce our members to each other and possibly a local craft brewery.
On July 14 Business & Beer will celebrate four year of networking over locally produced craft beers at Smog City Brewing. I have to admit, it really does not seem that long ago, but I cannot help but recall that in 2012 we only had four tasting rooms in our rotation. Back then we spent as much time at gastropubs as we did at breweries. As the years passed, more and more breweries came to the South Bay, so we stopped visiting gastropubs and went to a monthly format of breweries and brewpubs only. Today we have 11 breweries and brewpubs in the Business & Beer rotation, with a couple more locations planning on opening in Torrance within the next year. Continue reading
Scholb Premium Ales is located at 2964 Columbia Street in Torrance. It is just a few hundred feet west of Absolution Brewing, in the same industrial complex. If you pull into the first driveway east of Maple, just go straight ahead. We hope you will join us. Cheers!
Our next Business & Beer will be Thursday, April 14 at Absolution Brewing Company in Torrance from 6:00-8:00 PM. If you have not been to Absolution in the past four months, you will not recognize it as they have an entirely new and massive brewhouse in place of their original equipment. They have been turning out some very tasty brews with it, so gather up some business cards and join us for some networking and beer. Absolution Brewing Company is located at 2878 Columbia Street in Torrance. Continue reading
