Last night Business & Beer was scheduled to meet at The Rockefeller, a gastropub in Hermosa Beach. This was our fifth time going there and the last time we had more than 10 attendees; last night is was just the two of us. We learned a couple of hours ahead of time that there was a good chance the attendance would be low due to things coming up; we just did not realize how low it would be. Anyway, this is the reason we are changing our format to once a month beginning in July. It is difficult to commit to something on a weekly basis; that is one reason I avoid certain networking groups.
We will not let last night stop us, we have locations scheduled through June and they are all quality businesses. Next week, June 6, we will return to El Segundo Brewing Company, a microbrewery that puts out some of the best ales in Southern California. If you enjoy hops, you are going to love El Segundo Brewing. Parking in El Segundo is free and there is a public parking lot on the northwest corner of Main & Franklin. As they are a microbrewery they do not serve food but you are welcome to bring some in. We hope to see you there.

Last week the Business and Beer networking group returned to the Hermosa Beach gastropub; The Rockefeller. This was the second week that we utilized Meetup.com and it is becoming apparent that this is giving us some additional reach. We normally arrive at our meeting location about a half hour ahead of time so we can get set up and maybe eat before everyone arrives. When we got to The Rockefeller this time there were already five or six people waiting for us! It was going to be a good turnout.

As it turned out, this initial group was the result of a Business & Beer members Phil and Deborah meeting one person and talking about our networking group. That one conversation resulted in five new attendees. In addition, Meetup did provide three new attendees, so combined with the regulars that showed up we had a large group with a majority of the attendees being first timers. They seemed to have a good time so I suspect they will return. That is how we grow; if you know someone that might find value in networking with our group, please invite them. You do not need special permission and we do not need notice ahead of time; just show up.

This week, March 14, Business & Beer will return to 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro in downtown Torrance. 1321 Taproom has redesigned their food menu and is improving their beer program, so we are happy to add them to our rotation. For those that have yet to try any brews from the South Bay’s latest microbrewery, The Dudes’ Brewing Company, I have reason to believe they will have a few taps available there. Business & Beer held its first December gathering last Thursday at The Rockefeller in Hermosa Beach, CA. The Rockefeller is a gastropub that has about 25 craft beers on tap and a tasty food menu. They have always made us feel at home, even before we started bringing Business & Beer there, and Thursday was no exception. We had a small group but enjoyed our time together as well as the complimentary appetizers provided by The Rockefeller.

This Thursday, December 13, we will be meeting at Sophie’s Place, located in the Riviera Village in Redondo Beach. Sophie’s Place is another gastropub and offers some award winning menu items. Their lamb burger was voted best in the South Bay and I vote their date salad as the best in Southern California. They offer 50 craft beers, with some hard to find stuff; as well as eight rotating taps. There is always something special on tap. If you have been there, you know; if you have not, you will be in for a treat.
